a reddit user made a good point
I have family in NYC and noticed this too. Here are some other trends I noticed in NYC v. California:
Also this California trend has spread across the rest of the united states. NO MATTER where I am in the u.s.a (I could be in buttfuck Arkansas people will talk with their retarded Valley/Surfer/Stoner accent. WHY? (I still speak with a thick Brooklyn accent I grew up with despite not living there and I think that alienates me from my peers). I also noticed the SAME social dynamics in California are spreading to EVERY state in the union.

I have family in NYC and noticed this too. Here are some other trends I noticed in NYC v. California:
- In California people act like they are in prison. (they racially self-segregate) and passive/aggressively hate each other. (Hello the L.A riots of blacks/koreans while in NYC sure there may be some beef but Tyrone and Mr. Kim at least feel some sense of unity due to living in the same neighborhood etc). On the other hand in NYC sure the races aren't hunkey dorey but they will separate politics from pleasure and there will be some light intermarriage.
- Frankly in California I noticed people are "embarassed" to be seen with people they deem lesser because it could damage their self image while in NYC you see a LOT of fucking weirdos (piercings/mohawks/exotic pets/bizzarre fashion etc). but people still get along. Rather than thinking the eccentric person is creepy they just say: "oh he's weird but he's the creative type/street entertainer"
- Also it seems the "stoner" "dudebro" "fuckboi" or might I add "thot" culture originated in Cali it seems.
