I should've added that I'm asking because I hear a good chunk of people, saying deadlifts are bad for your joints and what-not, and can be replaced with other exercises, thoughts on that? Does it just depend on form?

Nope, waste of a movement that just got popular thanks to the internet fitness gurus, gained nothing from it when I did it continously years ago.

deadlifts are the best movement for performance but they are shit for hypertrophy.

Yeah, I've heard they're not good for hypertrophy, why is that? I mean, I wanna do them mostly for strength, anyway, just curious.

It's interesting, how polarizing deadlifts are.

because deadlifts are very fatiguing and doesn't target most of the back muscles its more of a leg exercise if done correctly imo

You want to do it for strenght, what kind of strenght, it will give you strenght in only one area of life and that is using robotic movement to pull a bar with weights using your hips.
If you think it will give you any strenght that really matters in real life, for example lifting some wood or getting in a fight, won't help with either.
Also to mention it incredibly stresses your nervous central system, you're literally burnt from it.

fatigue ratio is too high to accomplish the amount of volume required to grow significantly.

they also target the glutes better than squats so there's that.

I literally felt like dogshit when I used to deadlift weekly, didn't get any noticeable hypetrophy gains or any useful real life strenght gains.
Now that I didn't do them for years I look extremely aesthethic and feel much better.
Probably some fake internet propaganda with which they wanna fuck us up completely.

If u increase your strength you will have more muscular mass

doesn't tend to work like that, deadlift specialists are more often than not skeletons.

I really want to increase my overall strength, and hear about deadlifts, a lot, in the strength training realm, but is there a better compound lift for "overall" strength?

You were probably doing some dumb Stronglifts 5x5 shit on top of 5x5 squats 2-3 times a week. Just do one top set of 5 reps per week. It's not fatiguing at all. It's like the fastest, easiest lower body workout you can do and you will also get spinal erector and trap gains, too.

There's no way you go from 185 max deadlift to 495 and don't get any real life strength gains.

Doesnt happen with squat and bench press.

U wont find a shit chest with a Max of 130 kg BP or 180 kg SQ with small legs

Ive seen great low-bar squatters with small legs. These guys bias their backs more than their quads in the squat.
e.g. this guy Sawyer Klatt squats 700 lbs and his legs are really not that impressive

You should primarily do deadlifts if you want to be good at deadlifts..
Hitting deadlift prs is one of the most euphoric feelings.

It does build strength but must be with proper form to avoid injuries. Anyone that says it doesn’t should instantly ring bells in your brain regarding that person’s mental faculties.

Wide stance sumo. Absolutely nauseating.

I'm guessing he can still deadlift like 6 plates conventional (which is respectable for his weight), but that sumo cheating inflates his numbers so much

They increase your DL. Easily The worst exercise If you Have to cut something because of not enough Time and energy. That Said IMO its cringe If an adult man cant pull 3 plates off The floor

Lmao not at all, I did one set of squats and deadlifts per week, tried all variations with heavier/less weight and different rep numbers.
What "strenght" gains are you talking about, how often am I going to run into a bar in real life and position myself perfectly with a straight spine to use the hip hinge movement and lift it up lol.

I'll give you an example, let's say you're going to do something like that in real life, there's extremely high chance that ground beneath you won't be as straight as your gymslave building floor, your "strenght" will quickly disappear once you realize that your muscles and nervous system were never prepared for a non straight terrain.

It's worthless to train that movement for "strenght." It's not going to make you better at shoveling in garden at home, wageslaving and carrying boxes in a warehouse or for a fight It's infinite amount times better clearly to train martial arts or just use a weapon.

this is utterly retarded

Is a good display of strength, if not the best, to build strength tho, probably should focus on other movements, also im a competitive powerlifter if u want some actual advice pm me and not these retards.

They are fine if you do them right.

Reddit you say, you do sound like them actually, listening what your idols internet fitness gurus preach and then without any thinking out of the box whatsoever cutting and pasting it to .org
