Are elastics on braces essential? Or can you not wear them?

title btw braces have helped a lot but I’m unsure whether I should listen to the elastics part

elastics are usually there to correct bite which you want to do surgically not with braces

There’s no access to surgery for me, my bones are quite good tho it’s just would elastics fuck my face up?

i’m not sure but your bite is probably misaligned for them to use elastics, i guess if it’s slight you might look fine

elastics are used to pull your upper bite backwards to match with your lower bite, this is mainly in overbites which can be caused by jaw recession.
Elastics have a bad rep here because most of the time an overbite is caused by your lower bite or jaw being recessed so instead of fixing that they just pull your okay teeth backwards which also pulls the aleovar process of maxilla
