Are Gray Eyes a New Trend?

I see a lot of people (mainly foids) wearing color contacts and a lot of the time they're gray. I'm wondering if this is a trend because it might give me a halo since I have naturally occurring gray eyes, they would be about a C30 on the chart below maybe slightly darker depending on the lighting.
