Yeah, but thats probably the reason. Europeans visiting China, Japan etc. and then coming home, telling their friends that everything felt too small for them.

Also the fact that you see easily distinguish a Chinese person in the west, and they are usually shorter then the average. Meanwhile you can't identify Italian men that easily so you never experience the average height unless you visit Italy (and most just visit tourist areas where the tourists blend in with the locals)
