Proponents of the "pro metabolic" diet or the "ray peat diet" claim that omega 3s are highly inflammatory like omega 6s because they are also polyunsaturated.
Is that actually the case? Biochemistry and our evolution say otherwise

Omega 3s compete with omega 6s
Omega-6 fatty acids are used in the body to produce pro-inflammatory eicosanoids (prostaglandins, leukotrienes).

Omega-3s (EPA and DHA) compete with omega -6s for the same, enzymes (COX and LOX).

When omega-3s are used instead, they produce less inflammatory or even anti-inflammatory compounds.

Omega 3s produce anti-inflammatory mediators
EPA and DHA are precursors to resolvins, protectins, and maresins, which are specialized pro-resolving mediators (SPMs).
These actively resolve inflammation, not just reduce it. So, omega-3s don't just "not cause" inflammation, they help the body shut it down in a controlled way.

Proof from studies
Studies show omega-3s reduce levels of
CRP, IL-6, and TF-a, which are all markers of inflammation.

PMID: 24505395
The study shows a causation in where markers of CRP, IL-6 and TNF-a were shown to decrease even after supplemental use.

Proof from nature

DHA and EPA are not made efficiently, which means that they must come from diet. The fact that we need them for proper brain development already proves that they played a vital role in our evolution.
If they were inflammatory or harmful, natural selection would have favored individuals with reduced dependence on them, but the opposite is true. Our large, energy-demanding brains evolved near marine environments where DHA-rich seafood was abundant.

Holy shit, I could make a basic thread about nutrition and get into BOTB. So much glaze on OP for this.
