Apparently, there’s three genotypes that predict lactase persistence. There’s TT (lactose tolerant), CT (lactose tolerant) and CC (lactose intolerant). TT only occurs in Caucasians/Europeans and a few African Americans (because they have up 10-20% European blood on average, so it makes sense that some might inherit the same genotype). Hispanic and Asians don’t have the TT genotype at all, though a minority has CT (lactose tolerant) and most have CC (lactose intolerant). Most African Americans have the CC genotype (lactose intolerant) as well. I just checked it for my family members, 40% has the TT genotype, whereas 60% has the CT genotype. I suspect some my family members have been LARPing as South Asian and we’re really just tanned Dutch people after all.

This is just a joke post but it’s interesting to see that some of my family members have the genotype that’s pretty much exclusive to Europeans when we have zero foreign admixture.

TL;DR: Usually Europeans have TT genotypes and non-whites don’t (especially Asians and Hispanics, with the exception of a handful of African Americans since they have a large chunk of European ancestry).

Some of my family members have TT, does this mean they’re just LARPing as non-whites?

It’s a joke post but I thought it was interesting to see some of my family members having a genotype that’s not common in non-whites unless they have euro blood. XD

Certain types of dairy products can be digested by those who've low lactose tolerancy also slowly increasing dairy intake over time tome can train the gut bacteria to handle lactose better. Many genetically intolerant people become symptom free this way. So ig that's it, also mixed populations are generally lactose tolerant.

In South Asians, it’s from Steppe admixture, like @decadouche57 pointed out. I only have 20ish% Steppe, but it was enough to turn my family lactose tolerant. South Asians usually have the CT genotype, but two pastoralist groups had high frequency of the TT genotype that’s only seen in North Europeans. This is another study I’m referring to. As you can see, the study I’m talking about in the OP doesn’t have any South Asians tested. For Asians, they likely used East Asians.

That’s right, but I am pretty sure if you stop consuming dairy for a few weeks or months, then that goes away, too. South Asia is apparently the largest producer of dairy. It makes sense. Most South Asians live in rural settings and a lot of people are agriculturalists. :Comfy:

Yeah ig that's what South Indians do, they don't have any lactose tolerancy yet the dairy consumption there is more than expected

Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t the Toda South Indians as well? They’re one of the two pastoralist groups that had the TT genotype in high frequency. The other pastoralist group were the Gujjars but they’re mainly in Punjab and Rajasthan.

its easy for pastoralists to naturally select for persistence even with small steppe input thats how bedouins got it.
where in pakistan are you from.

Yeah you're right, Toda and Gujjar's have LP on the same level as of Northern Europeans.

Punjab! Where are you from?

Interesting btw, I didn’t think Bedouins had Steppe ancestry (even if low).

i didn't mean to say they have steppe ancestry i phrased it incorrectly i guess but they have more persistence than sedentary ones.
