The Israel/Iran conflict so far: An unbiased summary
For the sake of keeping this post short I’ll be starting from the Israeli attack on Iran which took place on June 13, 2025
The actual conflict began way before this attack but it would be too lengthy to discuss in it’s entirety so I’ll begin with the June 13th attack which marks a significant event in not just the Middle-East, but the whole world
On June 13th, 2025, Israel initiated what they call “Operation Rising Lion”
This military operation consisted of almost 100 airstrikes on Iran
The purpose of this operation was to ultimately prevent Iran from building a nuclear bomb, but more specifically, to at least partially obstruct Iran’s process of enriching Uranium which is necessary to achieve nuclear capabilities
The missile production factories, Control centers, and enrichment locations were destroyed as well as IRGC leaders and nuclear scientists
Israel has deemed this operation successful in significantly hindering/slowing down Iran’s ability to become a weaponized nuclear power
330 injured, 78 dead
Live broadcasts were interrupted as Iranian TV was struck as well as this being a major shock to the whole globe
Right after this operation was conducted two things happened:
1. Israel immediately declared a state of emergency and warned it’s residents of a possible counter-attack, many fled to bunkers or at the least took indoor shelter
2. The counter-attack
The Iranian counter-attack took place that same day
During the evening in IRST(Iranian-Standard-Time), Iran retaliated heavily
The first of many airstrikes on Israel since the attack took place on this day in which Iran launched a double wave missile+drone attack
There were over 100 drones that were backed by 150 ballistic missiles
Many of these were intercepted Israel’s defense system, some were even downed in neighboring countries surprisingly
However, some did make it successfully and reached their targets
The aftermath of this first strike included 3 dead civilians and 60 injured in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Israeli bases
On June 14th, 2025 Iran launched several more waves of attacks
The second day was mostly unsuccessful for Iran with there being only 31 injured and 2 dead Israelis after Iran used 33 ballistic missiles and 5 waves of attacks
Israel retaliated and destroyed an Iranian missile assembly tunnel and a petroleum energy hub
June 15th, 2025
After 55 missiles, 100 drones, and two waves of attacks Iran managed to decease 4 women and injure 5 citizens
The Israel counter-attack targeted oil storage tanks and missile plants successfully
June 16th, 2025
Israel escalates matters significantly by evacuation warnings, bombing military trucks, airstrikes on TV studios, and destroying 4 Iranian jets
Today, June 17th, 2025
Iran has used over 545 drones and 240 missiles in the past 3 days
Israel has allegedly intercepted 92 drones but was unable to intercept 10 missile impacts that have left 11 people injured
In return, Israel has struck another fuel plant that supports Iranian ballistic missiles
Israel has also claimed total air superiority over Iran
To summarize this war; Iran has killed 140 Israelis and injured 9 while Israel has killed over 230 Iranian civilians and military personnel
Where different countries stand on this conflict:
United States - Trump called for Iran’s “unconditional” surrender and claims to have total superiority over Iranian airspace while strongly advocating against Iran’s right to possess nukes
Canada - Supports Israel
UK - Supports Israel but also wants to end the conflict
Germany - The chancellor of Germany praised Israel’s attack and it’s right to defend itself
Pakistan - Supports Iran
India - Supports Israel
Turkey - Condemns Israel
China & Russia - Called for peace
Are we already in WW3? The answer to this question depends on what happens in the future. If this does become a world war then the June 13th attack was the beginning of it. As of right now the war is between Iran and Israel and it's slowly escalating. For it to become the third world war there would need to be a spark that triggers it. For example; The assassination of a leader. The event that triggered the first world war was the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. He was the heir presumptive to the throne of Austria-Hungary until he was assassinated. This was the spark that led to WW1 and it was the most immediate cause of WW1. There would need to be a catastrophe of equal or greater importance in the near future for there to be another world war.
This entire war is about Israel and it's allies trying to stop Iran from becoming a nuclear power. My prediction is that the United States will likely deploy bunker breaking missiles on Iran in the coming hours/days and destroy it's underground nuclear facilities completely. Iran's leader might also be assassinated there are already public assassination threats made by both Trump and Netanyahu. All this fighting when Israel will unironically split the atom in the process of trying to stop Iran from doing the same. They are fighting a war to try and prevent a war.
