Mental illness, went to a service that gave some diagnoses that was completely separate, then they sent information to my family doctor who then wrote up a certificate saying I'm unfit to work when I asked. Think you could just go straight to your doctor, I didn't have any intentions of getting one initially so the path I took may be weird. But the process may change depending where you live

You get payed during a PhD so not that big of an issue, but yea my parents are rich I'm basically leeching off them for undergrad fees. Also I study math/physics which is pretty employable outside of academia compared to something like social sciences/humanities

But the whole reason you get it is because you're unfit to work, I assume they would remove it the second you get a normal source of income. People I know irl who work in supermarkets say full time is like 640 after tax

Na it's bullshit, you can't work BEFORE you get it. After you get it they would encourage you to work (part time) And i don't know about the latter maybe NZ is much different.
