I recently found out that many people describe empathy as feeling bad for someone. Not feeling bad as general term but actually you yourself feeling bad. Never had it irl, though most people around me describe me as very understanding and kind

I enjoy the feeling others describe though, I like movies about lonely children and imagine having a needy daughter who wants attention 24/7

I was less empathetic when I was younger, but after being through a lot of good and bad shit and learning things it just came naturally.

That being said, I really think my emotional intelligence is in a pretty good standing right now, and I think people should seek experiences to hone theirs further.

Do you feel what others feel now?

Not really. I'm just able to understand what they're feeling and more importantly WHY they're feeling that way. In my experience, there's a bunch of experiences which can push this "skill" so to speak.

Once I process and understand what they feel and WHY they feel that (you can't always understand why though), then I respond in my own emotional way. Sometimes it's a stronger response if I connect more to said situation, and sometimes it's slightly more boring.

I don't see it as magic, but rather as having the ability to understand the "what" and the "why" just enough to be able to resonate properly.

Always with the scenarios

I'm not sure. In art, literature, cinema, documentaries, imagination and 2nd-hand experiences in general I've always found myself relating to characters and people and feeling everything on a very deep level, but IRL not so much. I have to go out of my way to think what would be proper to feel in x or y situation so I can bring those emotions up, or at least fake them. It's as if some parts of my brain turn off when it has to deal with anything external.

Me too, is it possible that media kind retarded us. Like we can only understand some situations when it's given straight away

Empathy has two main abilities:
- seeing beyond a person's mask
- feeling other people's feelings

Embracing other people's feelings is sympathy

Empathy is similar to a mirror
A mirror doesn’t change itself when it reflects
