It's pretty evident to me that we are going to experience a great economic collapse within the next 30 years.

Many, many people will die. Western world is going to get demographically annihilated.

Question is whether it is even worth preparing for this, whether you even can prepare for this, then to what degree.

I think it's absolutely crucial to over-react during the start of an economic collapse to secure vital resources. The first 12-24 hours, people will underestimate the scale of the event which is a crucial time to take advantage of the situation and hoard water, food, energy resources and more.

And I think a great emphasis should be placed on reacting properly during this first time of turbulence, especially if you live in a densely populated area.

Probably owning (several) weapons is also key during this time.

fallout and similar games actually hold viable lessons to be learned and could provide an advantage.

but I severely doubt the average 'gamer' has taken a conscious effort to realize these lessons, as is their right, since these games are played for entertainment purposes

I doubt it will be a drastic change in such a short time-frame. The West won't collapse in the way movies portray. Rather, standard of material living will decline and people will become more bound by there local geography. The Economy will cease to be globalized, and you'll probably see a return to a localized, small-scale society. Tribalism will, and already is starting to seep through the cracks in North America and Europe. Your best bet to survive such an event would be to make and form close networks with people locally that you can count on to have your back.

the moment there's 'hordes of bandits' looking for resources, aka police/military having lost complete control, you are already talking about a situation in which there is massive starvation, violence and death among the population.

At that point you are already one of the survivors, with a chance to live on. Don't understand why you don't see this. You have already out-survived at least 50% of the local population by then.

Never talked about a prepper bunker btw. I talked mainly about plans made where you know how to act in the first 24-72 hours. Where many people are still docile, 'waiting what happens', trusting that 'the government will fix it'.

Meanwhile that time period is absolutely crucial to secure vital resources that are still relatively easy to get as most people are still living on their stockpiles and aren't in that rush mode. The masses are waiting till they are actually starving before being willing to do what it takes to get food. And once the masses get to that point, you won't be finding food at the local closed off warehouse anymore. Or at the local factory/farm/etc.

Those 'easy' places will have long been raided.

Well in 30 years I'll be like 50 so won't matter. But I do think it will be more of a slow decay over the next 10-15 years America will get bad first Europe quickly following it.

Basically you will see America becoming more 3rd world. On the other hand places like Thailand will become more developed and nicer places to live the next decade you must take advantage of this country get all the money you can then jump ship. Eastern Europe will probably also have a brighter future
