JFL if you think a pattern recognition test translates well into real life, IQ is an incredibly poor predictor of general intelligence, resource gathering, and success. My IQ is 130 but I'm also 5'5, so it doesn't matter what I do or what I say, no one is taking me seriously, no motivation or discipline can compensate for this, when people don't even want to listen to what you have to say.

IQ tests are not super useful for identifying the most intelligent 1% or 5% or 10% of the population, as other factors become important above about an IQ of 115. But they are very useful for filtering out the least intelligent 25% of the population. In fact screening out the stupid people from the army during WW1 is why they were developed.
