people will always rate themselves above a 6 or below a 3

The average person you talk to will say something like "oh I'm not that attractive so maybe a 7" or if they're "depressed" they'll say something like "man, I'm like a 2, I'm just so ugly"

How people rate themselves has seeped into other things and now the 1-10 rating scale is absolutely fucked and 7 has become the new "it's ok"

I was talking to my mom about this and she rated herself a 9 and got mad when I rated myself a 5.

5 is perceived as very negative even though the average person would fall around the 4.5-6 mark.

People mistake obvious overconfidence with high self esteem and think it's positive for everyone to think they're above average at everything.

This phenomenon doesn't just happen with looks

If you ask someone how good they are at something that they enjoy doing they will almost always rate themselves above a 6 or below a 3. People who just do the activity for fun and admit they aren't great and people who are average but have a warped perception of what average means.

Yea I should've wrote about this. People will rate everything but a lot of the time have trouble rating themselves.
