My schizo teacher told me about this in 9th grade, the person who mainly talked abt Atlantis throughout history was Plato, everything else he talked about was and is still widely accepted and recognized in the scientific/philospical space but not Atlantis and there isnt even a good reason for that, but there is proof for it possibly actually existing.

This is what plato described it to Look like:
1000025434

1000025433

1: Central Acropolis / Citadell – The innermost district containing the palace complex, temples, and the royal cult of Poseidon and Cleito.
2: Inner Land Ring – Residential areas housing the elite classes, priests, and the inner royal guard.
3: Inner Water Ring – The first concentric circle of water surrounding the central island.
4: Outer Land Ring – Broad ring of land with military docks, quarters for the royal guard, sanctuaries, public gardens, and racetracks.
5: Outer Water Ring – The largest ring of water, serving as the main harbor.
6: Ring Wall (Outer Defensive Wall) – Encircling the city, situated 5 stadia away from the largest water ring.
7: Plain – The vast, fertile plain of Atlantis surrounding the city.
8: Main Canal – Connecting the innermost water ring and harbors directly to the sea (extending 50 stadia long).

And he said that it was located at the west coast of northern africa and that it got flooded and lost around 12.000 yrs ago (But over the past 10.000-100.000yrs ago the coastline of west africa gained a huge amount of landmass) but anyway when we take what he said and apply it to todays world it would be abt here:
1000025425

But since africa gained a lot of landmass, we can only estimate that the city must've been alot more to the east.

In todays Mauritania there is a structure called the eye of the Sahara, or Richat Structure, this is what it looks like/ where it is located:
1000025436

1000025435

And Here are some other Photos/angles:

1000025438

If you compare them to the description it fits pretty fucking well and another thing Plato talked about was stones and how they were used to decorate the city:

"The stone which was used in the work they quarried from underneath the centre island, and from underneath the zones, on the outer as well as the inner side. One kind was white, another black, and a third red..."
And guess what, exactly these colour stones are found nowadays at the Richat structure in Mauritania.

Also 5.000-15.000 years ago the Sahara wasnt a dessert but a lucious Savanna due to heavy rainfall allowing agraculture and big civilizations.

So basically its possible that Atlantis was build when the nowadays called richat structure was closer to the sea and then got flooded and that it nowadays isnt an lost underwater City but actually right in the middle modern day mauritania.

Except it doesn't make sense because no one else besides plato talked about Atlantis and it is pretty obvious he used it as a fictional story to drive a philosophical point, if it were real and he was talking abt an actual place there would be earlier records mentioning it in detail

Also the richat structure is not 12,000 years old nor is it some evidence of a bygone structure, geologists have studied it and it is mostly igneous rocks that are associated with events roughly 200 million years ago and another igneous event around 100 million years later with subsequent uplift and erosions producing the concentric structure, this whole theory sounds nice and all but its such an extreme stretch

But its not Impossible, also no one said that the structure itself is only 12.000 yrs old neither that the people that lived there built it, they could have found the structure and used it to build their city on top.

Could you explain what point he was trying to make? Was he hypothesising something? What if there are/were other records of Atlantis but they just havent been found yet or have been destroyed.

Its not really certainly disproovable neither proovable but it is a imo entertaining theory.

his point with the story of atlantis was how their material abundance led to moral decay and the hubris of atlantis lead to their ruin, the overall point he was making was that a healthy state depends heavily on the moral character of its citizens and not its size, wealth or armies and that civilization itself is inherently fragile and no society is permanent, its basically the greek version of the biblical story of sodom and gomorrah
But its not Impossible, also no one said that the structure itself is only 12.000 yrs old neither that the people that lived there built it, they could have found the structure and used it to build their city on top.
I guess so but its just too much of a stretch
