What it meant to me was that it proved Eten right and everyone who opposed him including Mikasa wrong. That’s what I got from it, so I did like the ending in that way.

Always strived to be an exemplary, outstanding man only for him to slowly come to the realization he was nothing more than an ordinary man, unable to bring about any sort of change. This is further reinforced when Eren does manage to pull off the manoeuvre despite the broken belt. Plus the girl of his dreams married another man, a man that he introduced her to. In the end, he sacrificed himself and committed suicide by blowing up a boat filled with explosives.
