Average IPD but wide set eyes?

I measured my IPD using an app and I'm 63-65 mm. Doubled checked it in real life and got around the same range, probably closer to 65. Yet in pics, the distance between my two eyes is more than an eye's length, probably around 1 1/3 of an eye's length. What gives? Does that mean my eyes would look better being a bit closer?
