Awkward stage on my hair is bad

Trying to grow my hair out to a European flow like 5-6 inches long- I’m gonna need a perm cuz my hairs super straight what should I get and hop on minoxidil or smg? How should I style my hair in this awkward stage. Ts is bad. I’ve been wearing a hat everywhere
