Bad idea to facetime girls before date?

Ive been asking girls I match with to facetime before our date. Ive already facetimed 3. With 1 girl we talked for 30 minutes and now she text me daily. For the other 2 it was extremely awkward and im embarrassed to message them again.

Will facetiming before meeting them irl lead to the friendzone? So far every girl ive asked has been down to facetime.

why would it be a bad thing? it allows you to see how they really look before your date (pics can easily be frauded) and form a nice connection beforehand too

Im non-NT so if the girl cant carry the conversation its gets awkward. I facetimed an 18 year old and she couldnt even look at the screen because of how nervous she was. It was the most awkward conversation of my life. Im pretty sure that ruined any chance I had at meeting her.
