I know. I am in that 90%. Beard is patchy and the sides look worse than pubic hair. Thankfully I am not recessed, so it's all good. No wonder I've never seen my dad with a beard in all my life. I probably got the trash beard genes from him.

since you can hide your flaws like a recessed chin etc

If you have a good jawline and chin, then having wide/unshaped long beard can make things worse.
Goatee, or something what Hulk Hogan had, can be stereotypically masc.
My chin isn't recessed but it looks better when it's visually bigger, so I trim it less that on sides (too long sides hide jawline, I trim them few mm shorter, and neck beard also may contribute, I trim it to nil there).
