Not killing them could be viable but because this is the standard (Jews) it's not, it would be better for health as well just keeping them and growing them out. Profit seeking at the cost of actual quality of the meat, milk or eggs is very common; all these products are very good for health, but quality is shit in countries like US. Red meat consumption is high in Portugal but bowel cancer is lower then US l (as low as Japan), this is because the meat quality is better, whereas US quality is shit.
In-theory a standard where they aren't killed is possible.
