let's be real - a genuinely intelligent person can easily shutdown this type without resorting to cliched memes
only those who think they are much smarter than they are have to make use of these terms because they are incapable of either a) logically refuting the statements of the opposition or b) verbally dominating them. ie they believe that they are the more intelligent of the two but cannot do anything to show it.
clearly, this is self-defeating as it would not be difficult to show if it were true. the result is they are inadvertently respecting the intelligence of the opposition
in summary, "you're a midwit" can simply be translated as: I respect that you are more intelligent than me and I would look like a fool if I were to try debating you so instead I am going to post some lowest common denominator memes in exchange for validation from my socially isolated peers in my favourite echo chamber safe haven
