Study
Overnutrition during early puberty leads to high insulin levels.
Insulin is structurally similar to IGF-1
High amount of insulin can stimulate bone growth.
High insulin may actually make the liver more sensitive to what little GH is available, making the liver produce more IGF-1 anyway.
High insulin suppresses the production of
IGFBP-1 & IGFBP-2
99% of IGF-1 is “locked up” by IGFBP-1 & IGFBP-2, so insulin supressing them leads to higher free IGF-1
Sadly, the brain and pituitary gland senses these high levels of free IGF-1, leading to your body thinking it already has plenty of growth promoting signals, thus shutting down its own production of GH.
In the study it showed children test low for GH but high for growth.
This study showed that PAPP-A, PAPP-A2, and STC2 are lower in these children.
STC2 acts as a “brake” on growth
Downsides:
Advanced bone age
- Children MAY reach “skeletal maturity”
-Growth plates close sooner.
The rapid height growth borrows from their future height, leading to their adult height being shorter then it could have been.
I recommend reading the study yourself incase I missed anything.
