My elementary school friends gradually moved away. By the time I began middle school, I only had 1 friend left. He ended up ditching me for the cool kids.

Technically I had some neighborhood friends...but they largely went to a different school than me. And even the neighborhood friends at my school wouldn't associate with me at school. So for all intents and purposes, I was known as the kid with no friends at school.

Yeah, I made friends in college...but not as easily as most students (and even with the friends I made, I was the loser of the group...I eventually found out some of my college "friends" hated me, yet were simply forced to tolerate me because we had mutual friends)
