to be "nice" is often a mask, a concession to the weak and fearful. it is the pursuit of comfort, a surrender to the will of others. kindness, when it isnt out of genuine strength, is little more than cope. what do you get out of pleasing others, the illusion of peace?

Depends on how you define nice. In my opinion you should focus on being good/virtuous. Being nice often means pleasing others and making them feel comfortable or accepted. "Nice people" are often too agreeable and are rarely authentic.

Moral integrity --> being a people pleaser
