Seen a lot of people say to never get braces because it will “recess” you, and while that is true sometimes, by all means get braces, just be smart and do your research on the type of braces and the orthodontist beforehand. Some orthos will prioritize your smile over everything, and in some cases yes, they will recess you to have perfect teeth, especially if they give you classic braces. I would recommend looking for an orthodontist that specifically says they are willing to help with forward mandibular growth, not just your teeth. For braces, there are a ton of different kinds, but the two main ones are Classic and Self Ligating. Avoid anything like Invisalign as you’ll be paying for worse results, longer period of time for change, and your teeth reverting back later on. I would recommend Self Ligating braces 100% of the time, but they are slightly more expensive than Classic. Rather than holding each bracket to the wire with bands, it uses a kind of trapdoor to keep the wire in the bracket. This provides more torque, giving better results, sometimes faster results, and much less often changes or breakage. Within Ligating braces there are Active Self Ligating (ASL) and Passive Self Ligating (PSL) braces. Both are very good, ASL uses a spring within the trapdoor on each bracket, where as PSL uses just a simple click in place. There is no definitive better one, both have positives and the least negatives of any other type of braces. I got PSL because that is what my ortho gave me, and either way it is very good. I have not done a palette expander or MARP yet, but I am actively looking into it. Ik it’s a lot of info but this is from my personal experience, not just facts on a worksheet. Even ones like Lingual Braces, Ceramic Braces, or Invisalign are not worth it. You will have a temporary nerf to your smile, but there is no other negatives. Long term this is wayyy better of an option, offering permanent results unlike Invisalign, and even better results not only with your teeth, but with your mandibular forward growth as well. All in all, best thing I can say is to not be afraid to ask the orthopedic questions, and also let them know what you are looking for with your braces. Always go to multiple orthodontics to get just the diagnosis, so you can compare and contrast what they say, and how they react to what you want. Hope this helps, feel free to dm if you are curious about anything else. First 2 photos are before starting treatment, last 2 are 6/18 months of treatment so far.

Yo i know im late but ive got a question. My ortho offered me Empower 2 self-ligating braces. I really dont wanna do anything to my face since im fine with what i got , i just want to fix my teeth and not recces and do anything to my face . Should i get ASL or PSL cuz i dont know?

Honestly it depends. As long as they are self ligating, you won’t be recessed. Stay away from classic or Invisalign at all costs. While the trending ones, Damon Braces, are passive self ligating, I personally use active. ASL I think is better but I’m not an ortho and am 16 years old lol. It is more controllable, and provides higher torque bc of the spring, providing faster results as well. I didn’t think I needed braces either cuz I was fine w my teeth, but it’s crazy the difference I have. Perfect teeth that are flawless and white are a very attractive feature, and are noticeable really easily, and provide great coloring while helping with appeal as well. Passive SL hurt a little less, and are cheaper sometimes from what I remember. Overall, I’d go with ASL, and do it no matter what. It is always worth it long term. Also, very important, when you are being consulted, and having everything scanned, they will show you your airway. If it is small, you can qualify for a CCW/BSSO surgery with insurance, as it’s considered medically needed to be healthy, not just visual. I’m right on the edge of needing one, going back in for consulting again. If you can get braces, always do it. Here’s an update photo to show how it’s working. Feel free to ask any other questions.

Yoo its been quite a while so im gonna tell you everything that happened this months. I got the self ligating but the PSL (passive) version since my orthodontist told me it would be a better option. Im now a week into the treatment and tbh its quite annoying to eat with them but I hope they work well long term so thats what matters. I know PSL takes longer but im still only wearing my braces for about a year or maximum 1.5 so its chill. If you have any tips for braces like cleaning or something im really open to try them out.

Happy to hear you got braces, PSL will still be great. 100% just depends on the person for which is better. The food thing is normal, took me probably 3 weeks max to get used to it. For braces, idk if you have elastics, I use Rainbow for evening front teeth at nighttime, and also side ones 24/7 to help fix bite, and pull mandible forward over time. Clean your teeth 24/7. I brush after every meal, or if they feel weird even. A waterpick or specific flossers for braces rlly help. Icl I’ve found a method of jutting that isn’t full out, but helps teeth fix themselves faster for misalignment. No visual affect, just positioning teeth so I can get it over asap. 1 year most likely, but 1.5 years is max length too. Scrutinize over keeping them in place, and lowk I eat everything, I keep a relatively healthy diet in general but like crunchy or chewy shit doesn’t matter when ur just careful and not a dumbass. Nun too crazy, I used extra bands and applied force through that jutting/positioning alignment of teeth for more directional force on front teeth, they are already almost fully fixed, in practically half the time. Def not applicable for everybody, I got lucky with my case and experimenting, but yea mess around and see. Better you brush your teeth the less likely you are to have permanent marks on your teeth after btw. Also, I’m consulting a surgeon for ccw or BSSO, so we will see how that affects teeth if it does at all, and if there’s any risk to that with newly fixed teeth. Keep me updated man, happy to see that path being started and you getting a good option.

I think I got lucky since my ortho told me I dont need elastics so brushing is pretty easy. Im also getting used to bite blockers that I have on my upper arch but theyre pretty helpfull since i got a mild crossbite. If you want to see my teeth I made once a post called "Should I get braces". Could tell me a bit more about the force on the front teeth since that could work in my case i think.
But apart from that thanks for the advice and keep me updated with the ccw or BSSO.

This forum was announced on incels. co (at the time) for the users who wanted to try their hand at ascending. I was a 16 y/o kid back then, lurking w/o an account because to me, signing up would be admitting defeat to myself. I signed up for this forum as soon as I saw the announcement.

back then it was very very different. to my knowledge, there was only one other user younger than me during the early days. the average age was prob 18-25. I was actually the first teenage user to be using performance enhancing drugs to ascend back then
