Any high paying high demand STEM job that you are interested in.

The only 3 variables you need to consider when searching for a good field of study for your college application are:

1) How sought after your skills will be?
2) How much will your skills be worth?
3) Do you even like that type of job?

Of course all jobs are going to require work but you may have a passion or even a gift for something that you don't even know about and if you like your job, then you're not going to hate going into work every day, you won't feel like you are forced to work a job that you despise like most people in the world. And if you are in high demand, it will be very easy to find a job after college and you'll be able to keep searching for jobs at other companies while negotiating a higher salary and you'll be able to use the job offer against your current employer to get paid more.

And if it's a high paying job, you'll be getting paid so much money that you'll save a lot each year if you only buy what you really need and avoid wasting money. You'll be able to either work a lot for many years in order to retire earlier, or you'll work half as many hours as everyone else while still retiring at 65.

The reason why people with high incomes often work for a similar number of hours as those with low incomes (or more in some cases) is because they don't budget properly, they spend more than they make, so they never save any money, but, if you make double or triple the average income and you minimize unnecessary spending, then you'll save all the extra money that you make compared to the average person, which means that if you negotiated for a position that has half the amount of hours, you would make an average income if your usual 40 hours per week salary is double the average.

Of course though, nobody starts working at a high salary, even those with good degrees usually start at around 55 000$/year which is close to the average but when you are in a good career, that income increases each year by a lot, and within 5 years, in some fields you can be making six figures. Most employers are not okay with the idea of letting an employee work part time because it goes against the values of capitalism, but it is possible to do that if you work in a field where your skills are in high demand and you know how to negotiate for the position that you want, that is because, if a company for example, is unable to get enough software engineers for what they want to achieve, and they don't have anyone to hire, then they are more likely to meet your demands as long as they are able to afford it.

The problem with the trades, worthless degrees or not having a degree at all is that you don't have the luxury to do that kind of stuff because your skills are at an average level or low level of demand and since the supply is much higher since it's easier than STEM, you wouldn't be able to make a ton of money or work less hours and you'd be stuck at around the average income. That is why most people make the average income, because only a select group of people are smart enough and hard working enough to go into STEM. Most people simply do not have the mental capacity for it or are not willing the efforts required to succeed in STEM because it's the most difficult field.
