The Creative QA Checklist
Use this checklist to QA creatives before launching them in your ad accounts. Get 2nd and 3rd opinions before deploying any ad creative—but try to not let the QA process take up too much time.
The best way to use this tool is more for training, particular for the Performance Boosters and Images section—this will help train your team’s gut on creative.
Step 1: The Basics
- Watch the asset in its entirety.
- Are the time lengths correct?
- Are sizes correct? Do you need 9:16 or specific sizes for this client?
- Are safe zones respected? Check here.
- Look at all text:
Spelling/grammar errors
Is it the right font?
Are the auto-captions correct?
- Listen to the asset using headphones. Is the sound quality good?
- Did you follow brand guidelines?
- Is there a CTA? (if applicable)
- Does it look good to you? (really?)
- Would the client be happy with this asset? (seriously?)
- Are you QC-ing too late? Is there enough time to do QC?
- Are there too many variations? 3-4 variations tops? Are you being intentional with the variations? Or are you being lazy?

Step 2: Performance Boosters
- Is your hook engaging?
- Are you doing something interesting with both the imagery and the messaging?
- Messaging: Is your text overlay legible? Can you reduce the number of words to make it stand out?
- Imagery: Is this the most engaging footage you have? Can you add a transition edit to the imagery?
- Are you doing something interesting with both the imagery and the messaging?
- Is your pacing quick enough?
- Are there any pauses that you can cut out?
- Can you jump cut your frame more often? Aiming for a minimum of 2 seconds between each frame. If a straight on testimonial: can you zoom in and out on your subject more to emphasize certain words or phrases?
- Does the storyline make sense? Is there a clear hook > story > CTA storyline? If not, why?
- Performance boosters:
- Messaging: Are there any opportunities to highlight one of the 16 human desires? Can you test a messaging hook specifically for one?
- Imagery: Can you use a split-screen, like a before & after or us vs them?
For images:
- Look at the asset. Where do your eyes go first? Is that the intended affect?
- Look at the asset on your phone. Is the messaging easy to read? Can you cut out any words?
- Are you using the right visual? Does it compete too much with the messaging? Can you figure out the focal point? Is your visual too crowded?
- Take a look at your inspiration ad. Is yours better or worse? How can you make it better?
