There are THREE distinct reasons for under-eye darkness. One type requires surgery to fully fix, and the other requires laser treatment (and sometimes grafting). Third type below, but I don't feel like typing it here. All 3 types can show improvement with topical solutions (for some). HOWEVER, MANY people with eye-bag / under-eye color issues have a combination of these issues and not solely one type only, however, it is good to know if yours leans towards one of the types so you know what to do & the causes.

TYPE 1: TEAR-TROUGH SHADOW (STRUCTURAL ISSUE w./ BONE):

A tear trough shadow creates the ILLUSION of a darker color (gray/black color) , due to a structural issue where the orbital bone sits lower (or some just have deeper troughs), fat is thinner/recessed and/or skin is thin. The skin over this lower than normal orbital bone covers the bone, which creates a shadow that looks darker than the surrounding skin.

TEST: If you shine light on the dark spot and the color goes away=type 1, if it stays it may be type 2 (see below). Another test is the skin pull: if you pull your eye bag skin down as far as you can (safely you fucking retards) and the color goes away= type 1.

TYPE 1 FIXES:
Since this is a structural issue (- the orbital bone) the "ceiling" for fixes is higher (surgery) , and more expensive. Topical treatments (creams) can work well for some, others need procedures and/or surgery:

Surgical:
1. Orbital fat repositioning (lower blepharoplasty) Permanently fills hollow using your own fat Most complete structural fix
2. Tear-trough filler (HA filler) Adds volume to reduce hollow → removes shadow Lasts ~9–18 months
3. Fat grafting (under-eye fat transfer) Semi-permanent volume restoration More natural than filler, longer lasting
4. Midface / cheek filler Supports the trough from below → reduces shadow indirectly

Topical:
1. Tretinoin (0.05% is good start but it is strong) , this is prescription level retinol that thickens the dermis over time (8-16 weeks). IndiaMart sellers provide these (guide coming soon on IndiaMart and IndiaMart negotiations). This is the best topical solution for this type.
2. Hyerlounic Acid (HA) , this hydrates the skin and makes it look less sunken. More of a supportive role, but can have good results. This is the same thing that is used in the fillers.
Others:
- Peptides (supportive, not a big role) for thickening skin (tret does better tho)
- light defusing eye creams (doesn't FIX, but rather covers to help you fraud)

TYPE 2: SKIN THINNESS SHOWING VEINS = PURPLE COLOR (SKIN THICKNESS ISSUE)
Thin skin under the eyes can cause the vessels under the skin to show through the skin, causing a purple appearance. The ceiling is lower (usually surgery isn't required) but topical things are more modest than for type 1.

(Test is the same to see which type you have)

TYPE 2 FIXES:
Surgical/procedural:
1. Fat grafting (under-eye fat transfer) Adds a real layer between skin and blood vessels --> less purple shows through, this also improves mild hollowness if present long-lasting / semi-permanent, one of the most effective fixes for thin under-eye skin
2. Vascular laser sessions / PDL/Nd:YAG) (cheaper than surgery, but requires more than 1 session): Reduce purple tone

Topical:
1. Tretinoin (0.05) ONCE AGAIN, this is the best topical solution as it thickens the dermis, which is directly targeting the issue of type 2.

2. Caffine serum, this is an almost immediate reduction in color and puffiness, but does not do anything structurally for the thickness of the skin like Tret does.
3. H.A and Vitaman C and Vitaman K serums can also work well, but they are more of a support role. Peptides also help thicken skin but once again are supportive over the main thing.

TYPE 3: PIGMENTATION (SKIN COLOR ISSUE)

Some people have brown or tan spots instead of purple/blue. This does NOT disappear with the light test or the pull test. More common in blacks/browns. This usually does not need surgery, and is probably the least common of the issues, but idk. Usually fixes are cosmetic like niacinamide, vitamin C and sunscreen.

Overall on average for ALL 3:
- Topicals improve 10–40%
- Procedures improve 40–80%
- Only structural fixes fully remove trough shadow (for type 1)
- Thin purple rarely disappears 100% (for type 1 and 2)

Lack of sleep, hydration and sunlight can also cause and/or worsen these issues- also, some peoples are caused by allergies, so if so you can look up what to do about that.

not medical or dermatology advice, always consult a professional before making decisions.

Slather tretinoin on your orbital bone and wear tinted sunscreen. Should help.

doing a small amount on the orbital bone while building tolerance will over time not cause burning
Try reading.

It causes dry eye not buring.

The dry eye causes the burning.
