best kind of braces for looks?

Hey, my teeth are pretty bad and they have some gaps to them. That’s why i’ve been thinking about asking my dentist for braces, however i have heard that some braces recess ur jaw and actually make you look worse.
What braces should i ask for?
I used to have an overbite but i got it fixed
