What I’ve been thinking about is that Ben always complains that he gets the wrong alien or the Omnitrix doesn’t do the right thing, but when you think about it, other than the moments when we specifically see him choose an alien (scroll through the holograms and pick a specific one) and the Omnitrix transforms him into a different one, most of the time Ben just scrolls for a second or two, and slaps the watch, sometimes just picking the first alien that pops up.(this happens a lot in UA and Omniverse) The order the aliens appear when scrolling through holograms appears to be random each time, and cartoon logic obviously applies, but when in a fire fight, or needing to make a split second decision, Ben doesn’t have time to scroll through 70+ aliens just to find Fourarms or Humungousaur, so he just slaps the watch, and ends up becoming something else, which then he complains about. Hell, there are sometimes where he just asks the Omnitrix to make a decision for him, like when he turns into Alien X and remakes the universe in Omniverse. And while the theory that the Omnitrix gives Ben the best alien for the specific situation is cute, we have seen countless times that that is not the case. (like in the Omniverse episode where Ben kept getting electric aliens when fighting a villain that feeds on electricity. Or how whenever Kyber uses the nemetrix, Ben always turns into an alien with a corresponding predator.) I really like the idea that as Ben got older, he learned not to rely on his heavy hitters like Fourarms and Humungousaur for every fight, but rather think his way through and carefully select his aliens, and we saw this a lot in Alien Force seasons 1-2, but come season 3, and for the rest of the entire series it’s back to “Time for Humungousaur! ... Lodestar? Stupid watch!” When Ben was ten, I could understand him wanting to always be Fourarms or Way Big, but Ben in Omniverse was sixteen! He could drive a car! He was in a serious committed relationship! (#Juliedeservedbetter) Idk I just feel like Ben was the perfect amount of smart but funny, childish at times but still clearly matured as a person and as a hero. Remember when Omniverse was announced and a big part of the marketing was that 10 year old Ben would be the center of a lot of their episodes, but then they only did it like once or twice? It’s because Omniverse Ben and 10 Year Old Ben are one in the same! I don’t know, I loved Omniverse for the art style, and all the new aliens, but man did I hate how they wrote Ben.
