I Always go with cereal with whey and milk its easy low fat and just straight carbs and will keep you full during your workout but this isnt an issue if your on reta. Typically you should also sip on some carbs during the workout around 40mins to an hour in and post workout you want to carb dump since this is the most anabolic time for insulin to shuttle proteins into muscle cells

They all share the same thing ; easy on digestion and fast to absorb.

Intraworkout carbs are only used for lacking muscle groups and long sessions otherwise you will just get fat since you dont want to drink your calories it also depends on what your doing aswell in terms of diet

If more than an hour, 30 minutes before working out+ take intra crabs during the last portion of your workout. Stay under 100g and over 60g. The closer you are to 60g without jeopardizing your workout the better. Don't over consume protein during your pre workout.

For pre-workout meal, as everyone said go for carbs with no fiber and lots of sugar as they are easy to digest and some protein, avoid any fat here (leave them for other meals, like 3 hours later your workout)
