Best ways to increase massester/gonion width?

I've also heard it's gonna be detrimental to train the masseters or increase the gonion size too much, because, depending on your face shape, it can make you look like a complete chipmunk. I'm looking for indicators of whether it's the right decision and, if it is, how to go about achieving it.
