Invasion hasn't yet started. Russia just sent troops to regions that have been occupied by them (not officially them) since 2014. It's more drastically increasing presence than anything else. The real invasion will start when they cross the regions controlled by Ukrainian forces

The Ukrainian "language" was just a dialect present in todays western Ukraine in the 19th century. Before standardization of languages happened, people in one nation didn't speak the exact same language like today, there would be non official dialects that would be spoken in different parts of a country. During the 19th century, there was no Russian or Ukrainian language proper, there were just uniform dialects of east slavic that were all similar to eachother.

Todays Ukrainian is standardized on the least east slavic dialect during the 19th century because it comes from the far west where Ukraine borders Poland and it has lots of west slavic elements because of that.

Not only that but Ukrainian was further modified in the Soviet Union to sound more distinct then standardized Russian.

And even after all of this, Ukrainian and Russian are like Swedish and Danish
