“growing up” is unnatural, one is meant to remain in a playful childlike state. This is beaten out of us by social conditioning as we get older. For most people the only time they are truly happy is as a child. And this is why you see people idolize childhood so much. In reality if you think back to catching fish on a sunny lake as a kid or the simple games and imagination that made you happy, it’s not changed only the anxiety caused by unnatural interpersonal relationships in the modern world.
As a child your thoughts flow without restraint, but as you get older the repetitive programming tells you to ignore immature things and reject certain patterns of thinking. If you don’t maintain your childlike mind you will forget how to think like this and forever live in dispair.
It’s happening even younger now. For me maybe people were robbed of their joy at 15 but now kids are sitting at home on a phone or tablet already forced to interact with unnatural social pressures from a young age. When they should be playing cowboys and Indians not experiencing a tokenized positive/negative interaction social system, and fake parental guidance and repression through schooling and work.
Doomscrolling is the exact function of this. A compulsory social response devoid of Joy. Meanwhile a child is blissfully unaware of such social complexities and rewards/punishments, instead he does not think before he speaks and moves through the world doing what makes him feel joy, mind directly connected to the body as a fluid system. When a child is apprehensive to follow this instinct it’s almost always because he was belittled/mocked by a teacher/parent or bullied for his looks.
The conditioned adult in todays world represses this instinct due to constant traumas inflicted by mocking or belittling as they get older And by groupthink where holding views similar to those not judged is seen as safe in order to avoid social embarrassment. Many individuals who feel additionally threatened and may have experienced more trauma will attempt to protect themselves from further social trauma mentally by signaling their willingness to bend the knee (virtue signaling).
Childhood is also characterized by extreme optimism, and want to experience life. Something that is removed later when children are belittled or mocked for having dreams of anything more than a stationary, repetitive, and risk adverse life. This is where extreme cope comes In, where those who choose suffering at school or job in their prime youth years mock those who choose to experience life and be free and transient (coping and wanting others to agree with you so you feel more certain in your choice, also putting trauma inflicted on you onto others)
Most people also have anxiety due to modern circumstances, people subconsciously know they rely on the system for their survival and therefore have little control of their situation, most have little if any skills to survive much of anything, those who know subconsciously they can loose everything and be fine will have less physical anxiety. A natural human has no anxiety if he is able to provide himself with what he needs. He knows that no matter what happens he can figure it out, he has the mental tools to do so. This is not just a mental thing but a very deep nervous system response.
Just remember never to forget things you wanted to do “when you grow up” and now feel numb and meaningless, make them fun again.
