How risky is bimax + sliding genio? I’m pretty much convinced that I want it as I think I have sleep apnea and I’m definitely recessed. So at the end of the day I’m mostly getting it done for cosmetic reasons. How common are serious complications? I am slightly concerned that this forum only talks about / shows the good results, and that there’s probably a huge range of terrible results (either bad aesthetically or functionally) which you guys just don’t talk about.

Yeah but of course there will be cases like that with every surgery in the world. I’m more curious how common things like that are. There’s a big difference between that happening once in history and it happening on a regular basis

Its pretty safe from what ive seen.
However a decent % of cases have some degree of relapse so theres that.

tagging some experts cause im curious too @Acromegaly_Chad @SixCRY

Standard procedure, is being performed dozens of times on a daily basis in western countries. Each case has to be assessed individually, there is not really a general statement about risks.

It's known that rotation, 3 piece lefort 1, high BSSO cut and other modifications increase risk drastically.
A linear advancement + genio is very standard and every maxfac can do it just well. The biggest risk will be nerve damage and disappointing aesthetic results, therefore you should go to an experienced surgeon who also focuses on aesthetics.

Which one of those would I need? I’m guessing linear + genio isn’t enough for me?

No risk no reward. The only two real risks you have is numbness in your face and lips and chin. And being aesthetically unsatisfied.

Being aesthetically unsatisfied is usually the result of people who get it for functional reasons and then end up disappointed, or if they got it for aesthetic purposes didn’t demand their vision enough so the surgeon did it his way

Numbness is a real risk. In most cases it returns back to normal. In some cases it will stay a bit numb. If you can’t cope with a bit numbness in your chin you are a pussy and shouldn’t do it LOL. You can get numbness from boxing as well

Your lower third is giga fucked up. Narrow mid mandible width is a big problem for you which means you need a lot of BSSO advancement and genio only for vertical chin height.
I think you keed CCW advancement + genio + rhino cause your nose is fucked too.

So out of this long list this surgeon has, which one do I need? Am I right in thinking “Maxillary - Mandibular Advancement (CCW Rotation + genioplasty)” is the one?

Only thing you should be worried about is being let down by the aesthetic improvement, so find a good surgeon and plan everything well

biggest risk is getting a permanent nerve damage. its common that u will get numb spots all over your jaw or lips etc. just pray to god that it isn't permanent.

also infections can happen, jaw relapsing.

Relapse is probably the scariest thing to me (other than death or serious infections). The thought of paying 20-30k for a surgery just for my jaw to go back to where it was before is terrifying. When people say relapse is a possibility with bimax, what exactly do they mean? That the teeth might move back a few mm, or that the jaw will just full on go back to being recessed?

Most relapses are teeth not being straight, not the jaw itself moving.

People say looksmax is bad.. yet on Reddit everyone speaks about high risks, here it’s so casual. Numbness wouldn’t really bother me, and I almost got it done on NHS so aesthetic issue would have been there. But I’m glad to be getting it done by an aesthetic based surgeon.

This is a comprehensive list of risks associated with bimax - from health to aesthetic

you should discuss each one of these with your surgeon during your consultation and ask them how they plan to adress these
