apart from being recessed I also have a slightly narrow palate and it isn't syndrome tier by any means I am getting bimax in the near future and with that I also need expansion of the palate. I have the option of doing bimax with mse or multi segment bimah where the surgeon splits the maxilla into 3 pieces to expand the upper arch and palate. My only concern with the multi segment is that there isn't any lateral projection in the malar region, however I've also heard that the lateral projection in the zygoes caused by mse is a looksmin and causes a moon face appearance, and that anterior projection of the zygoes is way more important than lateral, not to mention the mse can cause really bad asymmetry which is less of a concern with me since I am working with Dr Ting and lefort 1 usually fixes the asymmetry caused by mse (although there Is a slight chance that mse will cause one cheekbone to project more outward that the other which you would need lefort 3 to fix. I am also getting HA implants for the zygoes with dr gunson so it might not even be necessary to even consider mse for malar projection.

Benefits for Multi Segment lefort 1 palate expansion: no risk of asymmetry, still gives a wide smile, still increases nasal base and cavity, but doesn't give you a black person double barrel nose, Is more time effective since I don't have to wait for mse.

Cons for Multi segment: haven't seen that many cases with it, and There isn't any lateral malar projection (which I guess is irrelevant since I'm getting the implants with dr gunson.

Pros of Mse: malar projection (which some say is a looksmin), and of course wider smile, and slightly better nasal breathing than the multi segment

Cons of mse: possible moon face, double barrel nose, moderate chance of assymetry that can be fixed by bimax

So my question really is if mse is a max/min for the zygoes?

probably depends on if the zygos are the widest part of your face or not.

if your zygos are already wide then MSE will looksmin them, if not they can looksmax them (but they can still cause asymmetry which is always a looksmin)
