I had dreadlocks installed by a man that told me it was "normal" for my scalp to bleed after each session. He twisted them so tight that I developed blisters all over my scalp alongside intense itching, to the point that I was unable to sleep. To seal the deal, he used a method known as "interlocking" which is almost guaranteed to damage hair follicles. Despite me frequently raising my concerns with him, he(and his colleagues) told me that I was merely being "tender-headed" (Black-slang for being sensitive to touch) and that I should get over it. As these were "professionals", I felt the fault lied with me and so I endured. My hair began to fall out in clumps not too long after. Now it grows in patches and can't grow beyond a certain point before it causes me extreme itching, dryness and tenderness.
