comments too!
Take note that each time a specific example was named it was a woman, no sympathy for men. Good to know that the majority of people in my adult life will likely hate me.
"I started a new job and met a coworker that has ADHD (also seems to have some autistic traits), which was awesome! The sucky part is that my coworkers afterward warned me about her. They were basically describing me and warned me about the same things other people have complained about in the past. I was so mortified and actually a little hurt too because they’re really great people otherwise. I wanted to defend the coworker, but I couldn’t reveal her diagnosis. And now I’m kind of worried about the job. What if they see me the same way and I become the office nuisance again? This is a great job and I don’t want to mess it up. They’ll literally think something is wrong with me for associating with her. I don’t care but the whole thing is just upsetting."
"Never tell people at work about your adhd. It never ends well."
"had I recognized my diagnosis earlier, the insults that the owners accidentally texted me instead of each other, the context of the situation could have changed a bit. I ultimately quit due to their disrespect, but it wasn't until just this last year that it finally clicked, that's why that boss was such an asshole to me (besides the fact that head chefs are just often over-stressed assholes anyway, no offense to any that aren't lol). but basically, despite having better performance on the job than my peers, I was basically mistreated pretty heavily by my employers due to what is considered a protected disability, so yeah, that sucks to realize over half a decade later."
"There was a really nice girl, heart of gold. She was a hard worker, and of average intelligence. She was clearly one of us, but also disclosed her diagnosis without a second thought.
She was the type to do some odd things, like joining a conversation from 30 feet away that she wasn’t a part of and clearly wasn’t meant to be. She’d talk your ear off, and even if you had go it was difficult to find an out. She was disorganized, but not to the point it effect anyone else. She was mostly just distracted.
People fucking hated her. People who otherwise seemed like good salt of the earth peeps, educated and all. Gosh they were so brutal about her “personality quirks” and so unwilling to work with her it was such a shock to me. People had on-going inside jokes at her expense, they would talk shit behind her back constantly, and eventually their behavior in front of her changed.
She was let go, without a good reason. I can tell you the reason. People complained she was difficult to work with."
