I’ll start with the basics.
VANILLA SKY
Tom Cruise plays a narcissistic playboy disfigured in a car crash, who ultimately finds himself entangled in a nightmarish reality, raising questions about the price of beauty and the illusion of happiness. His beauty, once his currency, becomes a haunting void.
GATTACA
A dystopian tale where your DNA determines your destiny. (Our near future basically). Ethan Hawke's character fakes his genetic identity to defy a system that considers him "invalid," by getting sugery and leg lenghtening proving that spirit can triumph over biological determinism. Physical perfection is the societal gold standard, but the movie argues that it's not the sum of a person.
BLUE VALENTINE
Starring the literally me character par excellence, Gosling. It explores the disintegration of a marriage between Dean and Cindy. Initially drawn to each other's attractiveness and charm, the ugly realities of life erode their relationship, underscoring that physical allure is a poor foundation for enduring love.
It focuses on the importance of virginity of the girl in a ltr, the importance of hair and status.
