Proponents of the Blue Zone BS will tell you that the people of Loma Linda CA live on average 10 years longer that surrounding communities. Then they will try to associate their diet, see below, with their longevity. What they don't tell you is that the study that characterized Loma Linda California as a Blue Zone was published in 1974. Thus all the long lived people in the study lived at a time when 50% of the adult population smoked. Loma Linda is unique because at the time of the study everyone living there was a member of the Seventh day Adventist religion which prohibited smoking. Smoking on average reduces lifespan by 12 fucking years, so multiplying 12 years times 50% you get a 6 year lifespan differential. Then consider that their religion also prohibits alcohol, you can comfortably add on 1 year on average for eliminating alcoholism. Now you are down to a 3 year advantage over the general population and you have not even factored in an active life style and social actvites that the religion encourages. Their diet has nothing to do with it.
