I've never read any book that wasn't about mythology

but if you like very strong and interesting world building with great character stories, then i'd recommend the classic norse and greek mythology books, like:

'The Poetic Edda', 'The Prose Edda' 'The Saga of the Volsungs'

i always recommend these above to people who enjoyed God of war 2018 and ragnarok since it's basically the story of the game.

For greek, 'The lliad' 'The oddysey' (recent odyssey movie is about these two) is the most famous, althought i think norse mythology is better than greek

The Prince by Machiavelli. Cool philosophical book about getting and maintaining political power and the lengths people will go for their goals. Only read if you’re interested in that kinda stuff. People tend to get bored with it pretty fast though.

I haven't read much at all, so I can't give any examples from experience, but its usually very sad and depressing stuff, where my feelings are all over the place and leaves me empty when its finished.

If you want books on requited love for example on the top of my head i would recommend the sorrows of young werther, That book is what started the shitty "sensetive young man" that got popularised on twitter when german romantisicm started trending but then tiktok ruined it.

If you like that one some similar ones are oblomov, notes from underground and the kreutser sonata.

Good thing with these are that you will be introduced to both Dostoevsky and Tolstoy who are two of the most popular and most critically acclaimed authors of all time.

Other depressing stuff that i usually recommend is no longer human and Steppenwolf, these two are about loneliness.

The good thing about most of these books is that they are easily available for free online because they are older, so if you dont like them theres no money lost. But reading physical books will always be superior ofc.
