The beauty about martial arts is that most fighters (unlike Josh Kosheck) are not pussy's that cry to the ref and ruin the moment of thrill when it comes to watching sports; it's a well-versed, productive sport that you can never let go from.

I dont train boxing but I do train BJJ and do some striking classes and it absolutely is very similar to an art, imo most akin to playing an instrument.

When you learn an instrument, you learn basic patterns and cells and concepts and drill them over and over again, so much so that you develop a "vocabulary" of musical and rythemic phrases. Once you develop this vocabulary, you are able to piece phrases together to make unique and interesting sounding improvisation, you learn to use them in different contexts and situations. LIke using words to write poetry. As you develop more and more muscle memory and vocabulary, it allows you to freely play and improvise without even thinking, creating intricate patterns and melodies. This is what art is.

Boxing, or combat sports in general, are the EXACT SAME THING. You drill basic movements over and over again so that when you go to "improvise" (or fight) you are able to react, and fight without thinking about how youre going to react, and it allows you to piece together what you drilled to create beautiful combinations. What makes this even more interesting is that you do this while facing an opponent who is trying to do the same thing to you, so it turns into this competitive dance between physical artists. It is absolutely art.
