Do extractions on the lower jaw matter as much as they would do on the upper jaw??

so basically traditional braces most of the time will not cause recession unless you super super young. The problem is extractions, the traditional way of dentistry is to extract teeth in order to make room ( in the case of crowding which is caused becaue of a narrow pallate). After the extractions you retract the teeth into alignment. This can cause recession/bone loss/ a "flat" midface. Usually during development, less likely to effect your in adulthood. A better approach would be to expand the pallate in the case of crowding, and use self litigating braces for bite and teeth alignment.

Yeah she said I got no maxillary width deficiency what so ever
And the main issue is the width of arch dentally tipped in so she expanding dentally
I can show u ceph tho

Yeah bro it defenitly is bad . It retracts ur profile . Thats atleast with me

Wouldn’t that mean you were already recessed to begin with??
Exactly . I was recessed already pre treatment but it got screwed up and recessed even more like alot more bro .may I dm to show u . Probably due to retroclination and arch narrowing

elastics? as in rubber bands on braces or what
Yeah rubber
Ortho said we won’t retract much js enough for the upper teeth to be same level as lower teeth = better lip placement

wdym retract “much” do u have any overbite? if so you want to drag the lower teeth forward not the upper back that’s a maxillary retraction

I got braces when I was 12 but I didn’t get any extractions but I was young so my canine teeth were falling out so I feel like that recessed me super bad

Braces do recess and it was proven since I saw a person I know go through it.
Best thing is damon braces if you really need braces.

prove it biologically not anecdote, also braces report more than 90% satisfaction in aesthetics

yes because braces fix the alignment of teeth therefore a more aesthetically pleasing face
sometimes tooth retraction can lead to a "flatter" face and braces can fix your bite, making teeth aligned and more support
to prove it you can use x rays and studies

what im saying is braces can make your face appear recessed, but not change your skull itself.
that is why in most looksmaxing cases, orthodontics is a big part of people's transformations.
i just heard damon braces were a better option; i have no knowledge of them as i didnt have to have braces.

I have overjet
Aligning the lip will obviously be better than a projected upper lip
