Braces messed up my maxilla

I could swear my braces killed my maxillary developement i had an overbite, and they gave me like regular braces and some headgear bullshit that blocked my maxillary growth and my orthodontist says i‘m no recessed but i’m pretty sure i am. could that be the case for me and does anyone else have the same problem?
