Braces. Possible side effects ? (worse jaw etc)

I am seriously contemplating on getting braces but as my jaw is slightly recessed ( i 'd rate my jaw about 4/10) i am afraid of the horror stories on jaw getting worse after orthodontic treatment with tooth removal. I could also get a bi/max along with braces for a jaw improvement but bi/max side effects are substantially high to not be taken into account. So my questions are the following: Will having teeth extraction make my jaw worse ? and secondly, considering my jaw is 4/10 which is far from ideal and surely we must avoid it getting worse but at the same time not so bad that it needs surgery, and my teeth are about 6-7/10 straight should i get braces or just leave it as is and just get tooth whitening and call it a day ?

I am not complaining about my jaw. It's not great but i don't mind so much. I just don't want it getting worse with extractions that my dentist told me i will probably need.
