Braces question

So my friends were saying that getting braces make you look better. I also heard that the braces(or some other thing that are a different type of braces) or the braces with rubber bands recess you or something like that and Im really confused, so im thinking about going to a orthodontist, but I heard that the only thing they care about is if you have a good smile or not. I heard that damon braces are better or somethign but im not really sure. Im js tryna get rid of my over bite. Im just really confused and need someone to clear up my confusion. i dont really have any problems with my teeth i just have a slight overbite

I also have overbite, probably get braces and just so you know Damon and elastics have kind of the same result but with elastics you just go more often to the orthodontist
