No one raised their hands for at least a whole minute. Only when I said “If nobody is going to volunteer, I’ll pick someone myself,” someone volunteered.

I thought asking for volunteers instead of picking students was a better strategy, but clearly it isn’t.

I am used to teachers picking students out, so I thought by asking for volunteers I would be doing a better job, but nope, it’s the opposite. You need to pick students and encourage their learning.

Hah thank you for the nice words. I am from the Netherlands. I grew up watching American sitcoms and cartoons with Dutch subtitles. Somehow I just picked it up. I barely learned anything in school when it comes to English.

They are currently 12-13 years old, but that’s because I’m doing my internship at a high school, which starts at 7th grade here.

Next year, I am likely going to be doing my internship at a vocational college, where the students will be between 16 and 21 on average.
