Had a pretty brutal halo effect moment the other night, Went out with my friend who’s HTN and I’m a id say im hltn don’t get me wrong I can hold my own in terms of conversations etc especially compared to my homie
We ended up around a group of girls and I noticed pretty quickly that they were giving him way more attention than me. Nothing crazy at first, but every time he talked they were laughing, asking him questions and like brushing up on him Meanwhile I was basically invisible.
The funny part was that I was actually talking more than him. He wasn’t even trying to impress them. He was just standing there looking confident and they seemed to automatically assume he was the interesting/funny one.
At one point one of the girls literally turned away from me mid conversation to talk to him
Later another girl asked for his Instagram even though I had been talking to her first.
Made me realize how much looks + perceived status probably affect how people interpret everything else you do. If he says something awkward, they laugh it off. If I say basically the same thing, it feels like it gets judged way harder, but what can you do haha, if I wasn’t with my friend definitely would’ve had better chances no discredit to my friend tho im lowkey mirin him and it’s only motivation to be better.
