Yes they do care, imagine not knowing the methods of Accounting & Asset Valuation in-depth when entering IB/PE because you enrolled in a Meme course like economics or worse PPE
Unless you want to go into something super specific or technical they don't give a fuck. You realise degrees don't actually teach you how to do the job. They just show employers that you're not a retard and can get through a degree course. Most skills are taught on the job.

Would you rather learn the necessary skills for IB/PE interviews and work in a B. Sc. Accounting & Finance from LSE or enroll in Politics, Economics & Philosophy in LSE and have to teach you all of that in your spare time yourself

Also in continental Europe the specifc degree matters, the more practical the better

well yeah it's better to get a more relevant degree so your time isn't completely wasted. just answering the previous commenters question. LSE is an elite institution in the UK and the next best thing after Oxbridge for finance related jobs. The economics degree there is extremely competitive, however the prestige of the uni will carry any degree course taken there.

I would never waste my time enrolling in a useless course just because of the prestige

You don't enroll in Philosophy at Oxbridge to become a surgeon, you enroll in medicine
You don't enroll in PPE at LSE to become a IB/PE, you enroll in Accounting & Finance

Other way round in the uk tbh
No. 70% of graduate jobs in UK don't specify degree choice. obviously if you do a STEM subject it opens up even more jobs. Even careers like Law can be accessed without a law degree (albeit much harder ofc)

your surgeon analogy is obviously retarded. Also, have you considered that you can pursue a degree that you feel you'd enjoy the most whilst also pursuing an investment banking career path? I've got an offer for mathematics at Cambridge and am considering IB. I'd be at no disadvantage in the application process provided I join the relavant societies and extra curriculars.

It dont matter what uni u went
It matters what grade you got

Not sure if you're joking jfl

Either way you'll have a significant disadvantage if you major in something theoretical and useless, at a prestigious uni

Here in continental Europe degree matters way way more university but tbh there are also no elite unis like in the US/UK

Good luck getting into Frankfurt Investment Banking without a Finance & Accounting Degree, in-depth technical knowledge of these areas is crucial to have a chance

oh yeah forgot to mention. you need at least a 2:1 wherever you go (UK specific). For majority of jobs, even uni doesn't matter. For top jobs uni matters more and if u wanna go into a technical job such as engineering you need a related degree.

70% stat is true stop coping

obviously it's impossible to become a surgeon without medicine degree and like a decade of education. IB on the other hand you can get an analyst job with almost any degree

Okay let me put it this way

Who has better chances at X IB/PE? Rank them

1. A LSE Finance & Accounting Graduate
2. A LSE Gender Studies Garduate
3. A Harvard Gender Studies Graduate
4. A Edinburgh Finance & Accounting Graduate

Sorry meant "undergraduate degree". you still have to pass all the law tests or whatever (not too knowledgeable in this area but know it's possible).

Perhaps it's cultural differences but you definitely don't need an undergraduate degree in the exact field you want to work in. For example, at Imperial College London, around half of the engineering grads go into finance because of salary.

LSE is too prestigious to offer shitstain degrees like that. For IB in the UK it's all about uni prestige rather than degree choice. If you go to right uni the degree barely matters and it's all about interview skills and extra curriculars.

But yes. I agree with you that a more relevant degree to what you want to do is important. But it's not the be all end all. Do the degree that you'll enjoy the most that won't close doors.
