The five students, who are all 14- or 15-years old, are accused of abusing a 17-year-old special needs student last December in the locker room at Juanita High.
Kirkland police were called to the high school on December 22 after getting a call from a woman claiming her nephew had been sexually assaulted with a broom stick, according to court documents.
five of the players started to tease him about finding a picture of his girlfriend, according to court papers.
The teasing continued, and one of the players eventually called the victim into the shower area, where police say he and the other players grabbed the victim and pulled down his sweatpants and underwear.
Once his pants and underwear were down, one of the players began "jabbing" the victim in the thigh and buttocks with a broomstick, according to prosecutors. The victim later told police one of the players recorded the attack on his cell phone.
Police say one of suspects soon said, "this isn't funny anymore" and the teens stopped their attack.
The victim told police he was contacted that night by head football coach Shaun Tarantula, who said he was "sorry that happened."
Witnesses also said the attack appeared to be in retaliation for an event earlier that day when the victim and several football players were throwing ice water at each other.
The 13-year-old boy said the bullying had been going on for months.
But he didn’t say anything. Not to a teacher. Not to a coach. Not to his mother.
Not even when two of the bullies held him down while the other two sexually battered him with a broom handle and hockey stick, authorities say. The boys were alone in the locker room getting ready for an interscholastic flag football team practice.
“That’s part of this tragedy,” Hillsborough County school superintendent MaryEllen Elia said Saturday. “For whatever reason, he didn’t tell anyone.”
That changed Wednesday, she said, following an altercation between the victim and his tormenters on the flag football field at Walker Middle School on Tuesday night.
The coach, noticing something unusual, pulled the boy aside.
“The victim said to him, ‘I’m just sick of this,’ ” Elia said.
The coach followed up the next morning, and had the alleged bullies meet with a female physical education teacher. The teacher instructed each of the four students to write down his version of events.
Hours later, deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested four students: Randall John Moye, 14; Raymond A. Price-Murray, 14; Lee Louis Myers, 14; and Diemante J. Roberts, 15. [St. Petersburg Times]
St. Michael's, a Roman Catholic school that teaches grades 7 to 12 and is known for its athletics program, expelled eight students and suspended another one in connection with the alleged sexual assault in a locker room and another incident that police said involved hazing and was also captured on video.
Police sources have said the locker room incident involved a group of students on the football team pinning down another student and allegedly sexually assaulting him with a broom handle. Those sources said the hazing incident involved members of the basketball team bullying a student in the washroom and soaking him with water.
Sinopoli said Monday that the victim of the alleged sexual assault was doing OK.
"He has gotten the support he needs and deserves," he said.
Sinopoli said detectives were informed about the alleged sexual assault through the media on Wednesday. As a result, he said, an officer was dispatched to the school.
"Prior to arriving, Toronto police corporate communications received further information from the media indicating the expulsions were believed to be related to sexual assault involving an object," he said. "When the officer arrived and after speaking with the principal, he confirmed expulsions...were in response to a video that showed or depicted a sexual assault."
The school initially said it had informed police of two incidents, including the alleged sexual assault of a student, on Monday. However, the school's principal, Greg Reeves, admitted in a series of media interviews on Sunday that he did not report the alleged sexual assault on Monday because the alleged victim had not yet told his family about the incident.
y forcing 77 year seven students, mostly around 12 years old, to eat human feces.
An unnamed senior allegedly found a plastic bag filled with feces in the year seven students’ locker room on February 19, then demanded to know which year seven student had put it there. When he didn’t receive an answer, he grabbed a spoon and force-fed it to the entire class of year sevens.
“We just gave in and accepted it. It was disgusting, but we were unable to resist,” said one student, who did not report the hazers out of fear of retaliation. The seniors had warned the group of year sevens to keep quiet.
One student, however, did report the bullies. He ran home from the dormitory and explained everything to his parents, who then demanded the school take responsibility.
“The school must take drastic action against the perpetrator. Expel him if necessary,” Martinus, a parent of one of the bullied students, told local media. “I have removed my child from this school. They will have a fresh start at a new school.”
The feces, it turned out, belonged to a year seven student who could not make it to a restroom in time to relieve himself. Out of options, he used a plastic bag.
“After they found [the bag of feces], the seniors gathered us and forced us to eat it,” Arnold*, one of the students, told local media. He also said the seventh graders had previously been physically abused by the seniors, but they were too scared to report it.
Father Deodatus Du’u, a priest who is the head of the Mother of All Nations Seminary, shockingly justified the actions of the older students, downplaying the severity of the act.
“The term ‘eat’ used by the media is inaccurate. What actually happened was one of the seniors touched a feces-filled spoon to the lips and tongues of the year seven students,” Du’u said.
Du’u said the seminary had issued an apology to parents regarding the incident. The two students responsible for the incident have been expelled.
Retno Listyarti, Commissioner of the Indonesian Children’s Protection Commission (KPAI), said that she will coordinate with the region’s Department of Education and Ministry of Religion, since the incident took place at a religious school. Listyarti said the bullies may even get into legal trouble under child protection laws.
“The KPAI expresses its concern for the 77 students who were forced to eat feces,” Listyarti told local media. "The KPAI urges the victims' parents to make this a police matter."
